I’ve recently become obsessed with A GAME OF THRONES by George R.R. Martin from the series A Song of Ice and Fire. Not only is the book amazing, but I think the HBO TV series is even more noteworthy. Since the third season will premiere on TV soon (March 31st), I thought it would be a great time to dare you to read this great fantasy book.
The storyline might be a little bit everywhere because of the amount of characters, but that’s to be expected with epic fantasy books. The characters are amazing and I think the combination of all of them really makes this book what it is.
If you’re new to epic fantasy novels this is something you cannot pass over. It might be frustratingly long but it’s definitively worth it. While it is a fantasy series, the paranormal aspects aren’t too present. While there are a few paranormal/magical elements, they don’t overpower the story and I think that’s what makes it so great. The series really is about the characters and I’m glad the TV show found so many great actors to portray them.
Please note that the story is quite dark and mature at times. While I believe anyone who can read a 800+ pages book (or more depending on the edition) is mature enough for this story, please be careful while watching the TV series around children. I mean, it is HBO… Their reputation speaks for itself…
Have your read A Game of Thrones? Have you seen the TV show? If so, let me know what you think!
Long ago, in a time forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons out of balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes to the north of Winterfell, sinister and supernatural forces are massing beyond the kingdom’s protective Wall. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the land they were born to. Sweeping from a land of brutal cold to a distant summertime kingdom of epicurean plenty, here is a tale of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and bastards, who come together in a time of grim omens.
Here an enigmatic band of warriors bear swords of no human metal; a tribe of fierce wildlings carry men off into madness; a cruel young dragon prince barters his sister to win back his throne; and a determined woman undertakes the most treacherous of journeys. Amid plots and counterplots, tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, the fate of the Starks, their allies, and their enemies hangs perilously in the balance, as each endeavors to win that deadliest of conflicts: the game of thrones.
