People ask me all the time what I do when I’m not hunched over a keyboard making stuff up for a living. I think people imagine that since authors have such rich and exciting imaginary lives we must also have very exciting real lives.

They are correct.

Never for a minute should you imagine that I spend my non-writing time watching bad reality TV or daydreaming while eating brownies for breakfast and staying in my PJs until unseemly hours. Never, ever think that is the case. cupcake

The truth is that I can barely fit writing in among all my many and varied exciting hobbies. Verily, it’s a struggle to get my daily word count done in between all the delicious gourmet treats I bake for my family, the Ninja lessons, and the extensive crime fighting I do every night as my alter super-ego “The Bullet Catcher.”

Admittedly, it’s difficult to juggle it all, but I do it because I am such a humble and giving soul. Back before I wrote, I spent four years volunteering my time in a leprosy colony outside Honolulu. This was before I joined the USO to entertain the troupe with my amazing dancing skills. Anyway, during my time among the lepers, my best friend Stumpy gave me some life-changing words of wisdom. “Jaye,” she said, “can you hand me my nose?”

I’ll never forget those words. They taught me how important it is to stop and smell the roses. Therefore, every day, I try to carve out some time to thank the universe for giving me an imagination that allows me to spin webs of lies like an incredibly witty and sexy black widow spider. I do this in between my tantric yoga sessions and my daily massage from members of my dude harem.

I kind of pity those writers who are so obsessed with stories that all they do is write, eat and sleep. In their free time, they go to writing conventions or sign up for weird classes to research their next books or meet other writers for coffee to talk about books. Every new hobby they try always ties back into their books because they’re so into writing that it’s become the center of their universe.

Not that I know anyone like that.

Here’s the scoop on BLUE-BLOODED VAMP:

Jaye Wells Blue-Blooded VampThe epic conclusion to the amazing Sabina Kane urban fantasy series.

Sabina Kane is on the hunt. Her prey: Cain, the father of the vampire race and the one who murdered her family and her friends. Unfortunately, Cain is hunting Sabina, too.

The one man who holds the key to defeating Cain is, of course, Abel. A mage with secrets to spare and, hopefully, the power to match it. Unfortunately, for Sabina, he’s in Rome and may not want to be found.

Sabina sets out for Italy with her friends, Giguhl and Adam Lazarus, to track down the only man who can get her the revenge she hungers for. But will he help her or oppose her? And just who is Abel, really? Worst of all, when Sabina figures out the goddess Lilith has a plan for her-she realizes this trip is getting deadlier by the minute. As they say: when in Rome-SURVIVE.

  1. I agree. One shouldn't be obsessed with anything. A well balanced life is what everyone needs. All thoses life experiences I would think would make your writing better.usignolc(at)yahooDOTcom

  3. I love this series, I always tear through the books at a break-neck speed (well, except for Violet Tendencies, which I need to get my paws on ASAP), and I love the sarcasm dripping from every page. I also agree, though, that writers need to take time out of writing to actually have experiences which can enrich the writing. Plus, as much as it is to imagine ass-kicking stories, you can't just let your characters have all of the fun! I can't wait to read Blue-Blooded Vamp!!

  7. All the life experiences are/will be noticeable in your books, so I support all the authors that go to weird clubs for research. It's good to get a wider perspective on any type of subject. I've only read the first book in your Sabina Kane series, but I remember enjoying it when I did. Thanks for the giveaway!

  13. My husband thinks I need to start writing books since I read so many. I asked him when, the two minutes I use to brush my teeth of the 30 minutes at bedtime. Not always a glamorous lifestyle. Thaks for the giveaway!

  23. Okay, this probably won't count as a meaningful comment but…dude harem?! Hahahahaha!!!!I've seen these books around forever but have yet to pick the first one up. Now that I know the series is finished I may be more inclined to do so because if I like them, I'll be able to blow through the series without the horrible year-long wait!

  25. No chance of me ever getting overly obsessed with work. Smelling the roses is kind of out, though. I live in New York City and I wouldn't recommend breathing too deeply to anyone, especially on the subway.

  27. I have the first book in this series and have been dying to get the rest! I don't know how you ever found time to write it with your busy schedule (baking, crime fighting, volunteering AND keeping track of that dude harem) but I'm so glad you did! Thanks so much for a great offer!

  29. It is so important to enjoy life. I think women have so much to do and everyone expects from from us: to be a great wife, mother, friend, worker, cook and so on; we can only strive to do our best, and have some fun while we're at it 🙂

  33. Dear Ms Bullet Catcher, do you have a cool superhero costume, or are you out there 'incognito', in street clothes? …just wondering… ;)I am very much looking forward to starting BBV. I've loved Sabina since RHSC, and I'll miss her, but I'm glad you're not stretching the series out 'just because'. Thank you, Jaye, for the hours of enjoyment the series has brought me.

  35. What sense of humor? I see no indication of said humorousness in the guest post above…. Seriously, Ms. Wells, we can make a deal. I'll believe that YOU don't sit around in your PJs all day eating brownies for breakfast and watching terrible reality tv…IF…YOU believe that *I* don't sit around in my PJs all day eating ice cream for breakfast and watching terrible reality tv!! And then, someday, if we meet, we can laugh at those people who DO do those things by, well, watching some terrible reality tv in our PJs eating cake and pie for breakfast (and lunch, and dinner), of course!! You know…as research! Just so we can see what it feels like to actually BE one of "those people"…. Sooo…should we watch Basketball Wives, or Mob Wives? Mob Wives old-school, or Mob Wives: Chicago?! OR, maybe we should go for Real Housewives of New Jersey??? (which, since we're being honest here, is pretty much just Mob Wives: New Jersey!!) :)Ahhh, I tell ya…that's the kind of wit and wisdom I need in my life right now, so you better believe you've gained a new Twitter follower and blog reader and Facebook liker (is that a word, "liker"?? it kinda sounds…weird). Oh and most certainly also a reader of your books! In all honesty (no, I really AM being honest here – honest!), I've heard such great things for some time about your writing and about this series. I absolutely love the "trend" over the past few years of having some kick-a**, bada**, strong a** (sorry, just wanted to say it three times) heroines in (mostly adult) science fiction, fantasy, urban fantasy, paranormal and speculative fiction, etc. I've always been a sci fi/fantasy reader, but the great number of books with such awesome female characters is what has really drawn me to the paranormal/paranormal romance and urban fantasy genres here lately, which I'm having a blast exploring. So, yada yada, long story short since this comment couldn't get much longer, I would absolutely LOVE to win this giveaway and I will NO LONGER put off reading this series, I can promise you that!!! HONEST! Stay classy, Jaye Wells.
